The place is a breeding farm for orcas, some even living short, secret lives in a warehouse. A major fear is that export permits may be granted, and a terrible market result! Marineland has negotiated with Seaworld for bottlenose dolphins, also for breeding. Our goals are to preclude any further transfers of marine mammals to or from
Marineland, and to force improvements at the facility.
There are many reasons to say NO to keeping whales, dolphins and other marine animals in captivity. A growing number of people believe .. life is boring and unnatural .. The animals often don't live very long.
Many whales and dolphins are still taken from the wild.
They don't see their families in the ocean again.
Keeping them in tanks does almost nothing to help save wild whales and dolphins, or endangered species.
There are better ways to educate children and the general public about wildlife. In fact, watching whales and dolphins in such artificial conditions may convey the wrong message to the public that confinement and exploitation are ok.
Whale tanks and sea-circus shows are more about money and paying customers than they are about conservation, research or education.
It's wrong! Just because we CAN imprison whales and dolphins, doesn't mean we SHOULD.
We believe that it is cruel to confine whales for our amusement. There are many exciting, humane alternatives such as robotic displays and life-size models... computer displays, virtual reality shows and other inter- active exhibits... satellite links that allow visitors to observe whales in the wild... Imax and Omnimax films... videos... touch-tables... poster displays and murals... eco-tours... and non-animal shows and lectures.

In spite of inernational outrage against Marineland and a growing campaign against cetacean captivity in Canada, Marineland was permitted to import 12 Russian belugas last year for display at the facility. You may also be interested to hear that an 11-year-old child was recently bitten by a beluga she was "petting" at Marineland.
Some of you may wish to write to the Canadian Government about Marineland's petting pool, quoting the director of administration's obvious lack of regard to it's visitors and the animals interaction with one another and stating that, in light of further incidents occuring unwitnessed by park staff, petting of cetaceans at Marineland should be discontinued.
I hope that you will become active in encouraging Marineland and governmental agencies to improve the conditions of the whales and dolphins currently being held captive at Slumzoo. I encourage you to send one letter to one of the contact person listed below. THANKS!
